The Butter Dish

The Butter Dish

“The Butter Dish”. Why do I like this blog? Read the name again. “The Butter Dish”. Still don’t get it? Let give you a hint. “The BUTTER Dish.” Yes…BUTTER!!

Butter is on the top of the short list of stuff my daughter likes to eat. Seriously. If you don’t believe me, then watch this video. (It starts at 1:15.)Every time I’m in the kitchen cooking, and there is butter on the counter, my daughter is all over it. She loves butter as much as “The Situation” love his abs.

Whats got two thumbs and is a douchebag? This guy!

Anyway, Tara, the wonderful creator behind “The Butter Dish” has the same love for butter as my daughter. Only she incorporates butter into some rockin’ recipes, instead of putting it in a bowl and eating it.

Now please understand, Tara is not about butter in an unhealthy way. In fact, her recipes are the exact opposite. She focuses on real ingredients in her recipes.

I am starting to find out that less processed food is not just better for you,  it tastes a hell of a lot better!

I think the best thing about The Butter Dish, and what sets Tara apart from all the other foodie blogs, including yours truly, is that Tara tells a story, not just  a recipe. I really enjoy reading her blogs. She combines her love for cooking with story telling. More importantly, Tara has been a great supporter of my blog. She takes time to not only read my posts, but leave comments that are funny and encouraging. Thanks, Tara!

So I decided to make Tara’s “Sherry Chicken Marsala” for dinner. My family is crazy for Marsala! Literally. We love going to Carabba’s and ordering the Filet Marsala, with extra Marsala. We work those cooks to death by using up any Marsala sauce that they have.

So when my in-laws found out I was making a Marsala dish for dinner, they conviently showed up on my door step.

The key to this recipe is using real Sherry and real Marsala wine. Do not buy cooking Sherry or Marsala. First, it’s loaded with sodium. Second, it just tastes nasty.

Sherry and Marsala are wines. Not only are they used in cooking, they are used as drinks. Sherry is great to serve before dinner, as an apéritif. Marsala can be served the same way, or with dessert. Both are ideal as a dessert wine.

So again, skip the cheap stuff in the grocery store. I bought Taylor Sherry and Paul Masson Marsala. Both were around $6 each, so it’s not too expensive. Also, due to the high alcohol content (around 18%) I had to buy this in a liquor store…at least in South Carolina.

Anyway, back to the recipe. The fresh green onions mixed with the Marsala and Sherry, with a little garlic, infused my house with a wonderful aroma. Adding flour and butter at the end, thickens up the sauce.

While making this recipe, I skipped the mushrooms. Neither myself or my family are ‘shroom fans. Also, when I make this again, I will double or triple the the Marsala/Sherry sauce. As I stated, my family are fanatics over Marsala.

All in all, this was a HUGE hit at Rock Star Dad’s house.

For dessert I made Tara’s “Ever Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookies.” This is a great homemade recipe! And simple!

This was a huge hit with my little Roadies!

Please take a moment and visit The Butter Dish and check out all the wonderful recipes Tara has. Tell her RSD says hi. As always, thank you for reading, and keep on rockin’!

  1. Tara, (and RSD), The Sherry Chicken Marsala was excellente. It barely needed cookies as a follow up, but my pallette did not refuse them.

  3. And Jennifer…I am off to see if there are anymore of these cookies left!

  4. I just want to eat cookies with my grand kids. Love ya.

  5. RSD what can I say, I’m humbled to the bottoms of my little butter toes. I’m so incredibly honored you highlighted my wee little blog.
Most of all I’m so glad you liked the dinner and applaud you for using “real” wine; but then I wouldn’t have expected anything less from the ONLY blogger in the whole Foodie universe (at least mine) that includes a wine paring with all of your meals and posts.

It’s just genius and so helpful for the Wine Impaired such as myself.

    My thanks sir!!

  6. Your daughter eats butter!? AWESOME!!
